On March 29, the Federal Executive Council, or FEC, approved N59.78 billion for the ongoing Ogoni cleanup effort.

The council also approved two significant contracts for the development of a 100-bed specialty hospital in Ogoni and a Centre of Excellence for environmental restoration Wiiyaakara in the Kana council area of Rivers State.

The projects, according to Mohammed Abdullahi, Minister of Environment, were designed to support effective and affordable approaches to contamination management and environmental restoration while promoting the health and welfare of the people who had been adversely affected by contamination in those areas, the Minister of Environment told State House reporters after the Council meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.
