On Wednesday, a 40-year-old man named Titus John was charged in Ogun State’s Ota Magistrates’ Court for stealing 15 liters of diesel worth N12,975 from his employer.

John, whose address was omitted, was accused of stealing and disturbing the peace by the Police.

The defendant committed the offense on March 26 at the workplace of his employer, IHS Mask gas line, in the Ijoko neighborhood of Ota, according to the prosecutor, Insp. E.O. Adaraloye.

Adaraloye said that the company’s security guard captured the employee (John) defendant in the act.

He continued by saying that the defendant (John) was eventually turned over to the police after he was unable to clarify his intentions about the diesel.

In addition, he said that by refusing to open the Mask gate for the populace, the defendant behaved in a way that would have disturbed the calm.

According to the prosecutor, the offenses were under the 2006 Ogun Criminal Code.

However, the accused entered a not-guilty plea to the accusation.

The defendant was granted bail for N50,000 with one surety in the same amount by the magistrate, Mrs. A.O. Adeyemi.

Adeyemi mandated that the surety must be a resident of the court’s geographic jurisdiction, be actively seeking employment, and provide documentation of tax payments to the Ogun State Government.

She set a new hearing date of June 5 for the matter.
