The All Progressives Congress (APC), which is now in power in Nigeria, has denounced the attack on its Rivers State chapter members.

The party claimed that the Peoples Democratic Party was behind the attacks on its members in a statement released on Wednesday by Felix Morka, its national publicity secretary (PDP).

Assaults on Cole and APC
According to PREMIUM TIMES, Tonye Cole, the APC’s candidate for governor, was attacked by demonstrators on Monday while attempting to keep a scheduled meeting with INEC officials.

To file a petition challenging INEC’s declaration of Siminialayi Fubara as the victor of the state’s governorship election on March 18, Mr. Cole visited the INEC office to gather the necessary paperwork.

PDP candidate Mr. Fubara received 302,614 votes, and Mr. Cole received 95,274 votes, according to INEC.

Since the presidential election, the relationship between the national APC and the Rivers State branch is best characterized as lukewarm. Governor Nyesom Wike, the G5 governors’ leader, and President-elect Bola Tinubu appeared to have forged a loose alliance for the presidential election throughout the campaign.

After the governorship election, Rotimi Amaechi, the recently-retired minister of transportation, said that Mahmood Yakubu, the chairman of INEC, got support from the Messrs. Tinubu and Wike camps.

“There are those of us who were against Yakubu Mahmood’s reappointment.

He was nominated by someone who is a supporter of Tinubu. So what do you anticipate? he asked.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) condemns, in the strongest terms, the attack on some of its leaders and members in Port Harcourt on Monday, April 3, 2023, by thugs and supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

This barbaric and unprovoked attack occurred during a visit to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s office by Mr. Tonye Cole, APC Governorship Candidate, Dr. Innocent Barikor, Deputy Governorship Candidate, Mr. Emeka Beke, State Chairman of the Party, and 3 other party officials to obtain the Certified True Copies (CTC) of vital documents in the March 18 Governorship and House of Assembly elections.
