By Chude: The Nigeria Police Force has announced the arrest of Chude Nnamdi, whose Twitter handle is @chude__. He was taken into custody on March 18, 2023, in Onitsha, Anambra State.
The police also disclosed that the Nigeria Police Force National Cyber Crime Centre, Abuja, is looking into him for allegedly engaging in cyber stalking due to a petition about his online behavior, which is in violation of Section 24 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015 and other criminal laws.
The NPF withheld the petitioner’s identity, but according to The PUNCH, a number of social media users claimed that the Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, was somehow involved in the petitioner’s arrest.
In the meanwhile, the NPF asked members of the public to become familiar with legal rules and be mindful of the consequences of engaging in cybercrime, particularly with the emergence of the digital media sector.
A prima facie case against Chude has been established, according to the force, which also stated that his case file has been sent to the force’s legal department for future action.
Chude said on Twitter that thugs believed to be affiliated with Anambra’s ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance broke into various polling places and stole vote boxes.
Nevertheless, responding to the news in a statement on Sunday, Governor Soludo stated that Chude had been transported to Abuja on Sunday after being apprehended on Saturday in Anambra by Interpol’s Cybercrime Section.
He stated that the governor is unaware of any particular accusations or justifications for the Twitter user’s arrest.

According to the statement, “The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Police Command, has confirmed to the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, that one Mr. Nnamdi Chude was arrested yesterday (18 March 23) in Anambra by the Cybercrime Unit of Interpol and taken to Abuja today (19 March 23).
