Celebrate! Alfanla Is Named 7th Registrar at UNILORIN

The selection of Mr. Mansur Alfanla as the University of Ilorin’s designated registrar has been approved by the university’s governing council.

Alfanla, a Deputy Registrar and the institution’s Postgraduate School Secretary will succeed Dr. Fola Olowoleni as Registrar when her term expires in April.

The appointment was one of the highlights of the 183rd meeting of the Council, which was held last Thursday, March 23, 2023, and presided over by its Acting Chairman, Professor Saburi A. Adesanya, according to a statement made available to newsmen in Ilorin on Saturday by the institution’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Kunle Akogun.

The change came about as a result of the Selection Committee’s reports, which were carefully examined after it was rigorously determined that the shortlisted candidates for the interview to fill the soon-to-be-vacant position were eligible.

“With this appointment, Mr. Alfanla will become the university’s seventh registrar and secretary to the governing council, and he will be the third person to hold this position who rose through the ranks of the university’s administrative hierarchy before reaching the top of his career at the same organization.

Mr. Alfanla, a native of Kwara State’s Ilorin West Local Government Area, was born there on August 28, 1970.

He obtained his primary education diploma from the renowned Ansarul Islam Primary School in Ilorin. He also attended the Omupo Grammar School in Omupo, where he graduated in 1988 with a West African School Certificate.

The Registrar-designate began his studies at Bayero University in Kano in 1990 and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Combined Honours) in English/Mass Communication in 1995. In order to earn his Common Law Bachelor’s degree between 2006 and 2010, Mr. Alfanla also attended the University of Ilorin. After receiving his LL.B., he continued his education at the Nigerian Law School in Abuja, where he graduated in 2012 and was admitted to the Nigerian Bar as a solicitor and advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. He enrolled once more in the program for his law master’s degree in 2015, and he finished it in 2016.

Alfanla was promoted to the position of Senior Assistant Registrar in 2009 as a result of his persistent diligence and devotion to the University. In 2013, he was promoted to Principal Assistant Registrar. Eventually, in 2016, this remarkable university official was elevated to the position of Deputy Registrar.

Mr. Alfanla has served the nation’s most prestigious university for the past 25 years in a variety of roles and on numerous committees as the chairman or secretary.

The University’s Admission Officer was one of the many duties he was given, which he successfully performed between 2009 and 2013 under two separate administrations led by Professors Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede and Abdulganiyu Ambali. Also, he held the position of Academic Support Services Deputy Registrar.

“A veteran unionist and accomplished administrator, the Registrar-designate first held the positions of Secretary and Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SAANU) at the University of Ilorin from 2004 to 2007 and from 2007 to 2015, respectively. From 2015 and 2016, he served as the Association’s National Treasurer.

Alfanla is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the Association of Nigerian Universities Professional Administrators (ANUPA), the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), among others. He has participated in numerous conferences, seminars, and symposiums. Also, he is a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Corporate Administrators (ICAN).

“Despite having a busy schedule, Mr. Alfanla found time to work as the secretary of the University of Ilorin’s Ilorin Emirate Staff Association. In addition to serving as the Imam of the Senior Staff Mosque on the Ilorin Main Campus from 2009 to 2021, he also served as the Secretary of the University of Ilorin Muslim Community at one point.

“Mr. Alfanla served as a representative of the University Congregation on the Governing Council of the University prior to his current assignment.
