Gunmen attack radio, TV stations in Rivers State

Two broadcast stations, Wish FM 99.5 and the Atlantic Television Network in Ozuoba, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, have been attacked with explosive devices suspected to be dynamite on Tuesday evening.

The incident, which occurred around 8:40pm, led to the destruction of some equipment and property in the facility which houses the two media outfit owned by a member of the House of Representatives, Chinyere Igwe.

Hon Chinyere Igwe, said he immediately alerted the Police Public Relations Officer of the Police Command in Rivers state, adding that he also made a formal entry at the Ozuoba police division.

Igwe appealed to the youths to resist being used as agents of destruction by greedy and self-centered politicians and pay masters, who perceive opponents of their selfish interests as enemies that must be destroyed.

Igwe is a former member of the House of Representatives, representing Port Harcourt Constituency II, under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State. He is also a supporter of the Presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, is yet to confirm the incident.
