The murder occurred only 72 hours after two store owners, Chimezie Nagbo and another, were kidnapped in the town on Monday, April 10, 2023.

Million Jonathan, the supreme king of the Ubeta village, verified the happenings to the media over the phone.
Jonathan revealed that not all three of those killed were cultists.
He explained that the two kidnapped store owners were neighbors.
He stated that the kidnappers had not made touch with the community or family members of their victims since their kidnapping.
Jonathan said that the situation had been going on for months, despite government intervention. He revealed that many indigenous had abandoned the community.

The supreme ruler of the Ubeta community indicated that some of the teenagers who committed the deed had previously made an oath, but they were startled that some of them (youths) had reverted to their old ways.
He stated that society is eager to train any of the conflicting youths in skill development if they avoid criminality.
The supreme ruler has requested assistance from the Rivers State Government.
He, on the other hand, stated that he did not personally report the recent incidents to the police, but had sent someone to do so in Port Harcourt.
The Rivers State Police Command has not yet issued an official comment regarding the event.
