INEC: The compilation of the Abia State governorship election results has been postponed until 9:00 am Monday morning by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
Professor Nnenna Oti, the vice-chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) and the state election presider, made the announcement of the adjournment at around 7:15 p.m. on Sunday, shortly after the collation team had returned from a three-hour break.
After results from 10 Local Government Areas were announced, the collation, which had started at noon, took a break at around three o’clock, leaving seven LGAs remaining.
The Presiding Officers opted to adjourn when collation resumed at 6:00 p.m. because no fresh results were coming in despite waiting for more results to arrive.
Prior to the break, Dr. Alex Otti of the main opposition Labour Party was winning with a comfortable margin after receiving 66,024 votes in the 10 LGAs that had already reported results.
With 52,849 votes, Chief Okey Ahiwe of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, came in second.
Similarly, massive election-related manipulations have been the subject of accusations and denials in the LGA of Obingwa, where the current governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, is from.
Then, INEC acknowledged that its LGA office had been trespassed upon in a tweet.
Due to widespread rigging and violence, there have been calls for the LGA elections to be canceled.

Meanwhile, a huge mob of youths had congregated around the entrance to the Workers Secretariat opposite the entry road to the INEC office screaming ” Otti, Labour Party, New Abia”.
To prevent undermining the will of Abia voters, they vowed to maintain vigilance around the INEC building.
Also, there is extensive security around the INEC office.
