The review revealed areas where PLANE school-level technical support to the state will also help to improve education delivery, according to Ms. Diana Agabi, State Team Lead for PLANE.

Agabi noted that the assessment, which took place between November and December of 2022, looked at students’ proficiency in reading and numeracy as well as their teachers’ and students’ perceptions of the inclusiveness and safety of their classroom education.

Additional problems, according to her, included the availability and use of school report cards and safeguarding policy.

The Kaduna State Universal Basic Education Board has been challenged to improve the fundamental skills taught in elementary schools by the Partnership for Learning for Everyone in Nigeria (PLANE) initiative.

During the distribution of baseline data on teaching and learning outcomes in primary schools in Kaduna State on Monday, PLANE made the announcement that it will enhance learning outcomes.

The review revealed areas where PLANE school-level technical support to the state will also help to improve education delivery, according to Ms. Diana Agabi, State Team Lead for PLANE.

Agabi noted that the evaluation, which took place between November and December 2022, examined students’ proficiency in literacy and numeracy, inclusive and safe classroom instruction, teachers, and pupils, and attendance rate.

She also mentioned the availability and application of school report cards as well as the availability and application of protection policies.

The baseline study was carried out in 43 primary schools, with a focus on primary two, four, and six in six implementing Local Government Areas, according to Mr. Musa Adeyemi, PLANE Research and Learning Manager (LGAs).

Kaduna North, Kaduna South, Soba, Sabon Gari, Jaba, and Sanga were the LGAs named by Adeyemi.

In 43 schools, 115 school supervisors and 758 students in total were interviewed for the study, he said.

Mr. Gbenga Bamidele, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, PLANE, presented the key findings and noted that they revealed low levels of learning achievement among students.

Additionally, he urged people to assist teachers in their initiatives to deliver the highest caliber of inclusive instruction in their classrooms.

Identifying Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Focal People at the school level is one way to create a more inclusive atmosphere.

The number of students with disabilities enrolled in schools is currently minimal, and there are no facilities in place to promote their physical inclusion.

Hence, the government should make sure that there are suitable facilities for students with disabilities. On the results of learning, this might have quantifiable implications, he added.

In order to provide individualized teacher professional development, the monitoring and evaluation officer further urged the government to offer opportunities for coaching and mentorship to all instructors.

In order to have a long-term impact on learning outcomes, he also asked the government to take advantage of family support for learning outside of the classroom.

The assessment, according to the commissioner for education, Hajiya Halima Lawal, would help policy and decision-makers identify the areas where focused effort and resources should be allocated.

Lawal, who was represented by Mr. Salisu Lawal, Director of Planning and Physical Development, said the baseline assessment had revealed the difficulty and that the following part of the assessment should reveal a considerable improvement.
