Gunmen assaulted Aloko, a hamlet in Kogi State’s Oganenigu Ward of Dekina Local Government Area (LGA), in the early hours of Sunday, April 2, leaving hundreds of houses in flames and an undetermined number of people presumed dead.

According to the Daily Trust, the attackers, who arrived in their hundreds, immediately set fire to the homes and began shooting everybody in their path. James Adah, the All Progressives Congress (APC) ward chairman in Oganenigu, is reportedly among those murdered in the incident.
“There’s a humanitarian crises on our hands. Most of our people have run to Iyale, Ikpakpala, Odolu and host of others to take refuge, while others that have no place to go are stranded on the Abejukollo-Anyigba Road,” a resident of the community, Richard Adejo, says
Yahaya Bello, the governor of the state, has urged restraint in the wake of the attacks, calling them “a premeditated assault on the peace-loving people of Oganenigu who have long enjoyed relative peace and security.”

“My administration will continue to face out crisis entrepreneurs from the state and ensure that those involved shall be brought to book under the laws. The government will never bow to the machinations of heartless elements in its resolves to rid the state of criminals,” he said
State police leadership has not yet responded to this news.
