Cultist: The gruesome murder of one of its Special Constabularies, Uwem Cletus, who was assigned to his town, Ikot Abasi Akpan, in the state’s Mkpat Enin local government area, is now being investigated by the Akwa Ibom State Police Command.

LEADERSHIP learned that the late special constabulary, who worked as a security liaison in the cult-ridden Mkpat Enin communities where kidnapping, armed robbery, and other violent crimes have been prevalent for some time now, was captured by the local bandits, who beheaded him and later dumped his remains in a community well, for allegedly working as a police informant.
Nevertheless, SP Odiko Macdon, the police public relations officer (PPRO), said the police commissioner in an interview with journalists in Uyo, the state capital (CP), Olatoye Durosinmi, who was deeply troubled by the tragic incident, immediately assembled command personnel to search for the criminals in their various hiding places and bring them before the law.

The late Uwem Cletus was a member of our special constabularies, he stated. When we received that complaint, he was initially listed as missing and the police dispatched a search team. It was only after we began our inquiry that we discovered that he had been beheaded and dumped into a well.
“Our condolences have since been extended to the family, but upon learning of this event, Olatoye Durosinmi, the Commissioner of Police (CP), became extremely irate. Nevertheless, as I speak, we are approaching something that I wouldn’t like to share in this forum.

“Watch and see, we will prove to the public that this is what they have done. The commissioner has ordered a covert investigation, so all those who committed that act will soon be brought to justice. We expressed our condolences to the family members and pledged never to let up even if the State Criminal Investigations Agency (CID) had seized control of the investigation.
MacDon underlined the necessity for community policing to involve local community residents in the all-encompassing police of the state after expressing shock at the severe staffing deficit in the Police Force.
