Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi has revealed he feels lucky to play for the Nigeria national football team, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Bright Osayi-Samuel’s first-half penalty and scored by Moses Simon sealed a 1-0 win for the Eagles over Guinea-Bissau on day 4 of qualifying. AFCON 2023 on Monday.
The victory helped Jose Peseiro’s men regain the top spot with nine points while Guinea was second with seven points.
While speaking to NFF TV, Ajayi said it was important for the boys to make up for the shock loss to Wild Dogs in the first game of their encounter in Abuja last Friday.
“It was a very important result for our CAN entry. It puts us back at the top of the group and at the heart of it,” Ajayi said.
“We know we let ourselves down on Friday and it’s good to be able to correct that and win home.”
Ajayi also expressed his delight in wearing the Eagle’s green and white outfit whenever summoned to represent Nigeria.
