On Sunday, April 9, the Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State reopened for religious services, ten months after being attacked by militants.

According to The PUNCH, on June 5, 2022, gunmen assaulted the church and killed some worshippers while injuring others.

Rotimi Akeredolu, the state’s governor, had come to the scene to express his condolences to the community and the local church.

The victims and relatives of those who lost loved ones received relief supplies and monetary donations.

Akeredolu revealed that work on a memorial garden to honor the assault victims started in March 2023.

The town’s native son serves as the state’s governor.

Legal obstacles had prevented the prosecution of several of the suspects who had been detained in connection with the incident.

The State Government has started building a memorial park, which will be dedicated as part of events commemorating the attack’s first anniversary.
