According to The PUNCH, on June 5, 2022, gunmen assaulted the church and killed some worshippers while injuring others.
Rotimi Akeredolu, the state’s governor, had come to the scene to express his condolences to the community and the local church.
The victims and relatives of those who lost loved ones received relief supplies and monetary donations.
Akeredolu revealed that work on a memorial garden to honor the assault victims started in March 2023.
The town’s native son serves as the state’s governor.
