He received 35,664 votes, defeating his closest rival, All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Ahmad Gummi, who received 35,058 votes.

Dr. Lawal Saad, the collation officer for the 2023 Gummi-Bukkuyum supplemental elections, proclaimed Suleiman the winner after he received the most votes and met the legal conditions.
The supplementary election in the seat was deemed inconclusive due to overvoting and violence at several polling units, hence the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) set a new date for a new election on April 15, 2023.
Suleiman Gummi is a member of the House of Representatives who declined to switch to the APC with Governor Bello Mattawale and instead remained in the PDP with former Deputy Governor Mahdi Gusau.
