Okechukwu Nwanguma, the executive director of RULAAC, thanked the police commissioner for taking “quick action in ordering the detention and prosecution” of the police inspector in a statement released on Thursday.

However, the group encouraged him to make sure that there is “substantial justice” and a “quick, fair, and effective investigation.”
It claimed that doing so would act as a deterrent and convey “a loud and unambiguous message” to other law enforcement agents.

South-south Nigeria’s Delta State has apprehended a police officer for reportedly killing a guy with a gun in the state.

Onyeka Ibe, the victim, was allegedly slain by the officer, Ebri Ubi, on Wednesday at around 9:30 a.m. while he was performing a “stop and search” along Ugbolu-Illah Road in the state’s Oshimili North Local Government Area.

But, Mr. Edafe, a deputy superintendent of police, remained mute on the claim that the woman was slain because she refused to accept the officer’s bribe.

According to the police spokesperson, Muhammad Ali, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, ordered the officer’s arrest and custody after learning the “sad news” of the victim’s murder.

According to Mr. Edafe, Mr. Ali also ordered that the officer be sent to the State Criminal Investigation Department of the state’s police department for “a comprehensive and prompt inquiry.”

The victim’s family has received sympathy from the police commissioner for their loss.

He assured that the wrong officer would face legal action in addition to “being exposed to internal disciplinary actions” and that the Nigeria Police Force, as a disciplined organization, would not “condone such inhumane action” by any member of the force.

He urged the state’s citizens to maintain their composure and follow the law, assuring them that “justice will not only be done but will be seen to have been done.”
