The N5 million fine recently levied on the television station by the National Broadcasting Commission has prompted a response from Channels Television anchor Seun Okinbaloye.

On Sunday, April 2, while he was wrapping up his political program, Okinbaloye made a covert reference to the N5 million punishment by saying that the media “would not be silenced as Nigeria belongs to everyone.”
After a plea from Bola Tinubu’s campaign spokeswoman, NBC had fined Channels TV after Okinbaloye’s interview with Labour Party vice presidential candidate Datti Baba-Ahmed on March 22 in which the vice presidential candidate publicly opposed Tinubu’s inauguration as president on May 29.
During his appearance on the program, Baba-Ahmed urged the Chief Justice of Nigeria to refuse to appoint Tinubu as the winner, arguing that doing so would be unconstitutional.

Onanuga, the petition’s signatory, charged Okinbaloye with failing to act professionally by not preventing the Labour Party vice presidential candidate from making multiple inflammatory remarks during the interview.
