The gold mining industry in the Iperindo town of Osun state serves as the setting for the film.

Together with seasoned Nollywood actors Yomi Fash Lanso and Carol King, Scarlet Gomez is nominated for Best Actress in a Drama, Movie, or TV Series at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards as Wura Amoo-Adeleke, the show’s eponymous heroine. The series’ social media following is expanding as more users use the hashtag #WuraShowmax to express their opinions.

The movie is a localized version of the popular 1Magic telenovela from South Africa called The River, which received an International Emmy nomination. The first season will have more than 200 episodes. Every week, from Monday through Thursday, new episodes are released only on Showmax.
