Following its release in January 2023, Wura, the first Showmax Original telenovela in Nigeria, has achieved its 50th episode.
The gold mining industry in the Iperindo town of Osun state serves as the setting for the film.

Together with seasoned Nollywood actors Yomi Fash Lanso and Carol King, Scarlet Gomez is nominated for Best Actress in a Drama, Movie, or TV Series at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards as Wura Amoo-Adeleke, the show’s eponymous heroine. Future stars like Ray Adeka, Iremide Adeoye, Martha Ehinome, and Lanre Adediwura are also showcased in the serial.
Dr. Busola Tejumola, Executive Head, Content and West Africa Channels, MultiChoice Nigeria, commented on the 50th episode milestone: “The movie is maintaining up with Showmax’s commitment to showcase genuine Nigerian narratives that resonate with Nigerian audiences.

“Its complex plot, outstanding acting, and excellent production qualities make it a well-rounded series, and we are thrilled with the favorable response it has so far garnered. There are still more storylines and twists to come after 50 episodes, which will keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
The series’ social media following is expanding as more users use the hashtag #WuraShowmax to express their opinions.
“If you are not watching #WuraShowmax, you’re definitely missing!,” tweeted Twitter user @thereal chioma. Thank God for this amazing plot I’m seeing.
“Who would have imagined I’ll be preaching the gospel of Nollywood through a movie series,” wrote another Twitter user, @simmyngton. #Wura is incredibly intelligent. The cast is incredible, and most of them received their big break because to #WuraShowmax.
The movie is a localized version of the popular 1Magic telenovela from South Africa called The River, which received an International Emmy nomination. The first season will have more than 200 episodes. Every week, from Monday through Thursday, new episodes are released only on Showmax.
